ABSTRACT This research contributed by presenting data that allows the analysis of the impacts that culture, perspective, market characte ristics and various historical specificities have on informational rele vance. To this end, it presented as a problematization the idea of in vestigating the evolution of the relevance of accounting information in the BRICS countries, which occurred in a similar way between the period from 2000 to 2021. The main objective achieved was the observation that accounting information has no historical evolu tion in a similar way throughout the period researched. To achieve this objective, we opted for the methodology proposed by Ohlson (1995) adapted by Collins (1997), which consists of analyzing the relevance of accounting information through the use of the market value of companies, being explained by net equity and net profit.. The sample consisted of 59,080 observations for firms from Brazil, Russia, China, South Africa and India. In view of this, this research is highly relevant as it demonstrates, in a comparative way, how the levels of relevance of accounting information have evolved in emerging countries that make up the BRICS bloc. The main con clusions were that no significant evidence was found that net profit and equity were not relevant jointly and separately to explain the market value for the countries belonging to the BRICS, nor did the se relevances increase over the years. Keywords: relevance of accounting information; BRICS; evo lution of value relevance in BRICS and emerging markets.
